I Was A Prodigal Daughter
Today our sermon was about God’s love for us. How much He loves us demonstrated in 3 Parables. The examples were The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin and The Prodigal Son. The story of the Prodigal Son is very real to me as I was a Prodigal Daughter. I started this blog in 2012 when I came back to the Lord. Much of my story was told in those earlier posts.
I realize that not everyone who reads this may not know the story of the Prodigal Son. The story is in Luke 15 in the Bible. I will briefly summarize what happened. The son asked for his inheritance early and left home for the city. While there he squandered his inheritance living a sinful life of fun, frolic and a carefree life. Once the money was gone, he was in despair with no money or food. He saw the error of his ways. In desperation he planned to return home to his father and beg to be allowed to be a servant. When his father saw him coming across the field, he ran to his son and wrapped his arms around him, and rejoiced and said “the lost has been found”! He threw a party in celebration! This is the kind of redeeming love our Heavenly Father has for us. He loves us so much He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins!
My Story of wandering away was 24 years long! I am not proud of this but I am so thankful for God’s mercy and grace that he took me back into his fold. When I finally woke up and saw the light again, I was astonished that I could have let myself wander away for 24 long years! It amazed me what I was and still am capable of apart from, God not walking in the Spirit but choosing to walk away into a life that was sinful and self serving. The enemy, Satan knows our weaknesses and instead of calling out to God I turned away and did things I never would have considered if I was walking in a close relationship with God. I still am appalled that I let this happen for such a very long. Yet my loving God welcomed me back with wide open arms!
Hearing today’ message brought this back to mind along with an awareness on how amazing God is.” The song “It Is No Secret What God Can Do” came to mind and the lines, “Someone slipped and fell, Was that someone you? And “With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you, What He’s done for others, he’ll do for you”
